Rescue
Jo-Animals is the official beneficiary of Thunderkatz
Fundraising Efforts. We are Proud of the relationship we have with this
No-Kill Cat Shelter, and most importantly, with our Thunderkatz member,
JoAnn Smith. Some important facts about JoAnn are that she has trained
for 30 years in the animal medical field. She recently retired as a
Veterinary Technician to devote her time to her rescue work. She is also
licensed to rescue wildlife by the State of Oklahoma.
Twenty-One Furry Little Hurricane victims arrived in
September. Most were kittens between the ages of four and six weeks.
Donations are needed to help support this rescue, and those scheduled to
arrive in October.
She has rescued skunks, possums, bobcats, deer, and
owls. Some she transports at her expense to the Wildlife Intensive Care
unit at Lexington. She released two raccoons into the wild the day
before we took the pictures below. As you can see a rescued fawn has
become an adult protected inside the compound from hunters. JoAnn and
her husband Steve have added two brand new buildings with heat and a/c
to accommodate the rescues. The buildings will be finished before the
cold part of winter sets in. Funds have come from her husband's job, a
second mortgage on their home, funds raised from TK club cat shows, and
a few donations.
Darla Zuhdi, Author of "The Cat Detectives" book series
has assisted in helping JoAnn and Steve to gain 501-C3 Status, so
donations are tax deductible.
These pictures are but a few of the beautiful cats and
kittens available for adoption. A few walk on three legs or show other
evidence of the hardships they suffered, but most just needed food,
medical care and kindness. Several litters have been too young to eat on
their own, and JoAnn tube feeds them, taking them wherever she goes.
Kate Guinn has a rescue kitty she adopted and has been
showing for two years, winning Regional and National awards. The cats
are bright eyed, friendly and ready to go. Price of a future Award
Winning kitten is $25 if not yet altered. This covers only the expense
of testing and vaccination. There are some breathtaking beauties.
If you are looking for a long hair or short hair, red, black, white or
blue, send your request to JoAnn. Chances are good she will have what
you are looking for. Consider always that by adopting an adult cat, you
will know what you are getting. Nothing loves you like an adult cat that
has finally found it's own purrsonal human.
Contact JoAnne through Pat Harbert at ohmycats@cox.net or call her
direct at 405.356.2287 in Wellston, Oklahoma.
PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT SEND UNWANTED CATS TO JO-ANN'S SHELTER. JO-ANIMALS
IS RESERVED FOR NEWBORN KITTENS AND SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES. THERE ARE NO
FUNDS FOR OPERATING AN OPEN DOOR SHELTER. IF YOU MUST CONTACT HER WITH A
CAT/KITTEN NEEDING A HOME, PLEASE SEND A $100 DONATION PER CAT TO COVER
MEDICAL AND FOOD BILLS.
PayPal donations can be accepted at treasurer@thunderkatz.org. Please specify that the donations are for Jo-Animals Foundation (formal name on 501-C3).
